B | tell us a bit about yourself & the clē collective story.

S | It all started from a need to solve my daughters colic and tummy pains naturally while battling the constant thought of, how am I meant to return to my 9-5 and leave her in a years’ time? I could combine my passion for wellness and knowledge of the benefits of essential oils with my background in marketing and achieve my forever goal of running my own small business by starting The Cle. Collective. It allows women and mums to have access to therapeutic grade essential oil blends without the expensive commitment to individual oils, knowing they are using a natural and safe alternative for them and their baby.

B | Why did you start the clē collective?

S | Well firstly, this journey would not have started without the birth of my daughter Cleo. I’m quite open in telling people that beforehand I wasn’t exactly maternal. During pregnancy, I was constantly worried about my connection and how I would even begin to look after her. But as soon as I gave birth, I was blessed with an instant unforgettable bond and love for this tiny human. Overcome with worry and wanting only the best for her, I turned to essential oils when she needed help with her colic and could not have been more relieved to notice such a huge difference. I then felt I needed to share this with others, as the price of single pure essential oils is expensive and I felt there was a need for specific blends for babies that mama’s felt safe and comfortable using, that also looked like something they could proudly display in their nurseries.

B | what has been your biglittle achievement since launching?

S | I will never forget the moment I had a notification that @notsomumsy had mentioned us in her story. She is an incredible mother and role model who I gifted some oils to a while back. Unlike a lot of influencers, she took the time to use some of them and over 6 months later or more I received the notification on my phone. She had used our jet lag blend from our adult range and felt it had helped ease her jet lag, so shared her support. It’s such a little achievement but big to us small businesses in so many ways!

B | what has been your biggest challenge as small business owner & mama?

S | A big challenge for me would be the added stresses that come along with running a small business that you don’t quite realise until you’re in the depths of it all. Managing the back and forth with suppliers, juggling stock control and don’t even get me started on couriers and deliveries… Then on top of it all as a mama to a toddler I need to balance my time. I made an early decision to only work on the days Cleo is in day-care, when she’s napping or while she’s asleep at night. I’m doing this for her, so I do remind myself that it’s okay to not respond to some things straight away.

B | How have you stayed true to your brand & ethos?

S | There were three important statements I wrote down when I first started thinking about The Cle. Collective, and they were:

  1. Support women and their needs with natural and organic products.
  2. Create a brand connection and aesthetic that women are proud to display and is a joy to create.
  3. Give back. since launching we have donated a percentage of all sales to PANDA and will continue to do so as we believe if you are fortunate enough it’s important to give back wherever possible and help those in need.

B | what's one thing you want people to know about the clē collective?

S | Each of our products are free from parabens, sulfates, dyes, synthetic fragrance, and unnatural preservatives – so basically no nasties!

B | what does 2020 look like for the clē collective?

S | We will be launching a few new blends very soon and expanding our product range later this year. We want to show more of the behind the scenes and share our life and the benefits of essential oils with everyone. And of course, more collaboration with biglittlethings!

B | What is your favourite quote or inspirational message about motherhood or being a mama?

S | The days may be long, but the years are short.

B | What is your go to blend from your collection? & why?

S |
That’s a hard one, but if I had to choose I would have to say ‘mama’. There is good reason as to why it has been sold out for weeks. The blend of grapefruit, sandalwood and ylang ylang is not only beautiful but also so supportive. And it serves as a reminder to all mama’s that no matter how they are feeling, they’ve got this and can get through anything.

B | & now a very serious question – what three things are on your wishlist’s from biglittlethings?

S | Ohh I’d have to say the coco oat bath soak, full disclaimer I already use it on Cleo but it’s honestly the most incredible formula for bubs. I’m intrigued by the so luxury magnesium oil and of course a lullaby set to treat myself – they look so comfy and I adore the colours!
